SPRING REUNION AND 35th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

FRIDAY 12 MAY 2023

09:00  Depart hotel on coach.

09:15 – 10:15 Tour of the Manx Parliament, led by Speaker of the House of Keys, Juan Watterson .

10:30 – 12:00 Visit to Manx Museum (FREE) 

12:00 – 12:30 Coach to Castletown.

12:30 – 13:45 Lunch at The George Hotel (Pub) in the main square opposite the castle https://www.thegeorge.im/gallery/

13:45 – 14:45 Group A (up to 25 people) to attend an immersive session of sittings of the Manx Parliament in the Old House of Keys  – Included in MNH Holiday Pass for non-National Trust members (£22) (FREE for National Trust (NT) members)

13:45 – 14:45 Group B (up to 25 people) Tour Castle Rushen – Included in MNH Holiday Pass for non-National Trust members (£22) (FREE for National Trust (NT) members)

14:45 – 15:45 Group A tour Castle Rushen (as above).

14:45 – 15:45 Group B attend Old House of Keys (as above).

16:00 – 17:00 Coach to Regency, via Hango Hill, Derbyhaven, Plains of Heaven etc. (scenic route!).  

18:30… Drinks in the Regency Hotel Bar.

19:00 … Depart for Dinner – Coast Restaurant

SATURDAY 12 MAY 2023

09:00 Collect sandwiches etc. from Regency lobby

09:15 Depart Regency Hotel on coach to Douglas Railway Station. 

09:50 Depart Steam train to Castletown.

10:27 Arrive Castletown.  Board coach for tour of the Isle of Man with the following stops:

  • Drive through Castletown to see harbour and castle and on to Port-St Mary.
  • Cregneash Village open air museum  – Included in MNH Holiday Pass for non-National Trust members (£22) (FREE for National Trust (NT) members)

  • Drive through Port Erin and over the southern hills to Peel.
  • Lunch: Sandwiches on the coach to eat at will.
  • House of Manannan Viking Museum in Peel  – Included in MNH Holiday Pass for non-National Trust members (£22) (FREE for National Trust (NT) members)

and Peel Castle (see from the outside).

  • Drive to St John’s and briefly visit Tynwald Mound (where Parliament meets on Manx National Day (5 July) for public reading of the laws) (around 15:30).
  • Drive north along TT Course to Kirk Michael, Ramsey, over mountains to Snaefell  (2000 ft), see the world’s largest Water Wheel in Laxey and then back to Douglas, arriving at hotel around 18:00.

 Dr. Pat Cullen extends apologies but, due to unforeseen circumstances, has had to withdraw. Tim Cullen, our Isle of Man 1818SBC event organiser, has kindly stepped in and will speak on:

“The Small Countries Financial Management Centre – how the Isle of Man helps the economies of small developing states.”

SUNDAY 14 May 2023  

11.30 – 12.30 35th Annual General Meeting, Board Room, Regency Hotel. 

Note:  Members can take the Victorian horse tram along the promenade from the hotel during their stay.
